Rearrange

Furniture placement can create easier movement around the room, a better view of focal point, and an environment more conducive for conversation.

Living Room Before and After

Many things changed in this room. The display shelf got a little makeover, the large painting changed places with the mirror and now hangs proudly over the fireplace. In its new position, the mirror now reflects the beautiful backyard instead of the kitchen.

The homeowner also purchased new, smaller scale furniture. By placing the couch away from the kitchen bar, it opened up the space and you didn’t feel like you were walking through a narrow passageway.

Rearranging the Dining Area

In the dining area, the dining table was able to move out a little from the wall, now being centered under the light fixture (no more swag!).

Creating More Room by Rearranging

The entry into this living room was crowded by the closeness of the green chair and the sofa. By putting the furniture at a slight angle, we opened it up, allowing us a more comfortable access to the room. We were able to move the chairs away from the wall, giving a more spacious feel. You can see that we painted as well, going from a cool blue to a warm grayish green.

Angle to Rearrange

Again, by angling the furniture, it gave us the opportunity to put a table behind the sofa without crowding the entry from the kitchen. Placing a lamp on the table gives light where it is needed.
